“Action and Passion for peace”
is a no-profit association founded and coordinated by Cristiano Grandi, formerly Secretary General of the Gorbachev Foundation for 10 years and co-founder, as well as coordinator of the World Summits of Nobel Peace Laureates from 1998 to 2006.

Using his experience of the organization of the first 6 World Summits in Rome (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005), of the Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Gwangju (South Korea, June 2006), of the Brisbane Earth Dialogues (Australia, July 2006) and of the Summit of Mothers of the Earth (Piacenza, September 2006), Cristiano Grandi, through “Action and Passion for peace”, intends to carry forward his work of the last 10 years trying also to give to the initiatives of this new Association a higher rate of concreteness.

The majority of international summits and forums on peace and human rights are indeed often limited by the very fact of restricting themselves to describing problems to be solved and to passionate declarations, of principles and good intentions, without following them up with adequate concrete action. However, “Action and Passion for peace” proposes to combine passion with action, in the search to follow up words and discussions with concrete and efficacious acts, however small.

The association pursues exclusively aims of social solidarity, and its primary objective is to sustain, both nationally and internationally, the activities and objectives of the Nobel Peace Laureates in the fields of human, civil and religious rights with particular attention to those in the weakest categories (children, woman, the sick and marginalized), of solidarity, of defence of the environment, of the continuation of peaceful coexistence between men and women of different races and political and religious creeds, of the non-violent resolution of conflicts and the banning of all weapons of mass destruction.

This support will be made concrete through the following means:

  • Helping to publicise appeals, statements or any other type of initiative promoted by the Nobel Peace Laureates, either individually or in association with each other, on general or specific themes connected with their peace-making and human rights activity.
  • Promoting and organizing, in Italy and abroad, seminars, conferences, conventions, summits, courses of study and peace education and all other initiatives, of a public or private character, intended to:

    draw the attention of the public, of the media, of institutions and of politicians to the activities and objectives of the Nobel Peace Laureates;

    mobilize consciences when faced with situations of humanitarian emergency, of danger for peace, democracy and the environment, or of violation of human rights;

    undertake concrete actions in response to emergencies, violations and identified dangers;

    contribute to the spread of a culture of peace, tolerance and non-violence between peoples, with particular attention to the younger generations.

  • Realizing and/or promoting the production of films, video investigations, documentaries on the life, personality, activities and objectives of the Nobel Peace Laureates to be broadcast through cinema circuits, Internet, schools, etc., both nationally and internationally.
  • Carrying out fund-raising operations for specific objectives on behalf of the Nobel Peace Laureates (individuals and organizations) on their request and also selecting companies and/or institutions with a high ethical profile willing to finance initiatives and projects supported and guaranteed by a Nobel Peace Laureate.
